This is a novel written in 1957 by Caary Jackson about stock car racing of this era, when stock car racers were using ’30s coupes and 2 door sedans to build their race cars. It was the time before the wide race tires, quick change rearends and very sophisticated racing engines. A time when race cars were closer to to their genuine “stock” condition than the all aftermarket race machines of today.
If you want to learn the jargon of the stock car pilots, race mechanics and short track people this is a very good book for it, plenty of funny expressions of the trade. I loved reading this old book that I bought on ebay. The intrigue was very interresting and all the characters involved in the story had their special touch, their own type of unique personnality, like in the real life. This book gave me the idea to write my own novel about a story of stock car racing, but mine depics a story that would have taken place more than a decade later around here, in the french-canadian cummunity. We have been doing a lot of stock car racing here too, after all, all over the province of Quebec.
